Uganda\naims at increasing the number of tourists who visit Uganda from outside country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The\ntourism industry\u2019s growth 2018 overtook other sectors, helped in part by an\nincrease in the number of tourists and incomes at large,” he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsaid that basing on that growth, government has announced that it is going to\nfocus more of her energies on attracting an extra one million tourists both\nlocally and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According\nto the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Uganda received 1.8million tourists in\n2018, up from 1.4million in 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\n2017, the 1.4million arrivals injected about $1.4billion into the economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\ncontributed to about 10 percent of the GDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\nhis speech at Golden Tulip Hotel in Kampala on Tuesday 15th, Godfrey Kiwanda said\nthe Ministry has embarked on further conservation and protection in National\nParks and enhancing Water Safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\nare going to increase our marketing activities by contracting three more Public\nRelation firms for Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, (Qatar and Oman), Japan\nand China markets; the firms will be contacted at a cost of $0.5m per country,\u201d\nhe explained<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nfurther added that last year, Uganda contracted three PR firms from the United\nKingdom, USA and Germany at a cost of $ 0.5m each. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
When\nthe new PR firms for Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, (Qatar and Oman),\nJapan and China markets come on board, government will spend $3m on marketing\nUgandan tourism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“2018\nhas been transformational and the sector has registered strong achievements as\nwell as working towards consolidating our position as the Pearl of Africa and a\nlot are being done to make sure we are on the top of other sectors,” he\nstated<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kiwanda\nfurther explained that; \u201cOther targets will include digital marketing and use\nof celebrities who have a big following as tourism ambassadors; they should be\nable to compose songs for tourism and that can be done by taking them around\nour parks.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other\nprogrammes include local and regional campaigns such as Twende Uganda,\nDestination Uganda and Pearl of Africa campaigns.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
