The\nSpeaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has assured the nation of her commitment\nin fighting corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nsaid she will continue exposing the corrupt despite the threats she has\nreceived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\ndid tell the Members last year when I talked about the harassment of the\nfishermen by the army that there is a minister who came to my office and told\nme to stop talking about the army,\u201d said Kadaga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nSpeaker said that she will not protect any corrupt officials irrespective of\nthe party they belong to. She added that, \u2018there is no excuse for being\ncorrupt. Any individual who engages in \ncorruption does it on their own behalf and not that of the party\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\nsaid that as a country, Uganda has no common agenda to commit atrocities and\ntherefore individuals who are corrupt should be dealt with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kadaga\nwas responding to a concern raised by Retired Bishop of North Kigezi, Edward\nMuhima who said that Uganda has a very high degree of corruption which he\nattributed to lack of faithfulness from the leadership. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\nwas during the ecumenical prayers to mark the start of the Third Annual\nParliament Week on Monday, 14 January 2018. The Week is being held under the\ntheme; \u2018Championing accountability to improve service delivery\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bishop\nMuhima challenged Members of Parliament to lead by example and champion the\nfight against corruption if the country is to achieve improved service\ndelivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor\nus to champion accountability, we need to be stewards with values which we can\ndemonstrate, teach and instill in others,\u201d Bishop Muhima said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\ncalled on leaders to uphold and promote values such as honesty, faithfulness,\ntransparency, accommodativeness, patience, time consciousness, team work and\nintegrity as they perform their duties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese\nvalues can only be upheld through believing in Christ but not religion,\u201d said\nBishop Muhima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Deputy\nMufti, Sheikh Ali Mohammed Waiswa called on Ugandans to understand their\nlimits, so that they may not suffer the consequences of their failure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cProphet\nMohammadsaid that grace upon a person who knows their limit. For that matter we\npray for his intercession that he helps us to accord our nation the innermost\nof our best,\u201d said Sheik Waiswa<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nParliament Week runs from 13 to 19 January 2019. The week-long event will be\ncharacterized by several activities aimed at bringing members of the public\ncloser to Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nactivities include meet your MP sessions, a public parliament and a panel\ndiscussion involving LC 5 chairpersons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over 20 departments of Parliament and selected ministries, departments and agencies will be exhibiting and showcasing their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
