Former\nembattled Makerere University researcher Dr Stella Nyanzi’s case has been\nadjourned to February 19th 2019 after both university and her lawyer failed to\nproduce the required documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nyanzi\nwho looked frail with shaved hair appeared before Justice Lydia Mugambe of the\nhigh Court for the hearing of a case she filed against the university for\nrefusing to pay her wages and failure to reinstate her on her job as directed\nby university tribunal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr\nNyanzi explained to high Court judge that she had recently suffered from\nmiscarriage while in the prison and had been admitted to the prison’s sick bay\nand failed to get in touch with her lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde to swear a\nsupporting affidavit in her case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In\nOctober 2018 Makerere tribunal directed that Dr Stella Nyanzi be reinstated and\nbe paid all her salaries and also promoted to the level of a research fellow\nwith immediate effect after lifting her supension however the University failed\nto abide by the order then Dr Nyanzi sued the institution seeking payment of\nher salaries, be reinstated as directed by the staff tribunal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr\nStella Nyanzi was among the over 40 staff who were sacked by the University on\nvarious reasons which include sexual harassment, insubordination, absconding from\nduty among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But\nthe case of Dr Stella Nyanzi was dismissed on the ground that her contract\nexpired and was unable to renew the contract.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr\nStella Nyanzi is currently remanded at Luzira prison since November 2018 on charges\nof cyber harassment and offensive communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On\nWednesday the court adjourned the hearing of her case till next month on\nFebruary 19th 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
