National\nOrganization of Trade Union has cited irregularities in the sacking of Makerere\nuniversity lecturers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According\nto the Chairperson National Organization of Trade Union, Usher Wilson Owere has\non Sunday 6th<\/sup> January 2019 cited misconception in the way through\nwhich Makerere staff were sacked from their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Makerere\nuniversity fired over 40 teaching staff on December 22, 2018 for reasons such\nas absconding, sexual harassment, failure to complete their studies, Financial\nfraud and insubordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “Now\nI have checked with the minster of labour they have informed me that they are\nnot aware and you know 48 workers are many,” he explained<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\nsays Makerere University should follow the law to the latter and they don’t\nhave any problem with them if they so thought that they should lay off the\nworkers but should be done by following the law and by following the law must\ninform ministry of labour, engage stakeholders because Makerere university has\nUnions, associations and also other bodies which are supposed to sit together\nand discuss on those issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “The\nway they have done it, they have done it in a political way. If they wanted through negotiation then can be\ndone like that but workers have now rights to run here and there because\nsomething has just come like a bomb. There is a way they also want to handle it\nbut will we have an engagement with them,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n He\nfurther explained that workers’ body must protect the interests of the workers\nfirst before they do anything, so in case of anything, workers interests must\nbe worked on first and proceed with\nother engagement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" National Organization of Trade Union has cited irregularities in the sacking of Makerere university lecturers.
