The\nmusic industry in Uganda has experienced steady growth for the last few years\nhowever, a recent trend towards politics has created some challenges for\ndifferent music industry players especially Kyadondo East Member of Parliament,\nRobert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine who joined active politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bobi\nwine has had his number of shows blocked with the most recent being concert\nthat was scheduled on boxing day December 26, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\nmusician has been prevented from being a guest performer at different concerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since\nthen more different players in the industry have openly expressed their\npolitical leanings and this has affected their relationship with the State and\nthe security agencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Andrew\nBenon Kibuuka the president of Federation Of Performing Arts came out to give\nthe organization’s stake on the unfolding events in the music industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According\nto Kibuuka most of what is happening in the industry can be blamed on the old\nlaws that govern the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\ndon’t have rules and regulations governing the industry, this is a big problem,”\nKibuuka said<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nadded that the public entertainment act which artists are working upon was set\nin 1943 by colonial masters even before national theatre was constructed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We\ndidn’t have promoters, stadium shows, active theatres, we didn’t have musicians\nwho moved place to place, we had few entertainers,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nexpressed his disapproval of the new regulations for the musicians recently set\nby Police. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\nsays police before passing the law they would have first consulted artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kibuuka\nsays it is not good for one person to affect the multitudes of people that earn\na living in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“For\nus we don’t look at one person we look at the entire industry. People who I\nbelieve have even suffered more are the promoters who invest in a lot of money\nand book the venue. Why should one person make all to suffer?” he asked<\/p>\n\n\n\n
