{"id":5807,"date":"2018-09-25T12:49:36","date_gmt":"2018-09-25T09:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=5807"},"modified":"2018-09-25T12:49:36","modified_gmt":"2018-09-25T09:49:36","slug":"instagram-founders-resign-from-facebook","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2018\/09\/25\/instagram-founders-resign-from-facebook\/","title":{"rendered":"Instagram founders resign from Facebook"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"engadget-post-contents\" class=\"o-article_block pb-15 pb-5@m- o-subtle_divider mt-n10@m-\" data-ylk=\"sec:postcontents;slk:Instagram%20founders%20resign%20from%20Facebook;elm:hdln;itc:0;\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+__cell col-8-of-12@tl+\">\n<div class=\"article-text c-gray-1\">\n<p>Just about six years after Facebook\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2012\/09\/06\/facebook-completes-acquisition-of-instagram\/\" data-rapid_p=\"1\" data-v9y=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">closed its $1 billion purchase of Instagram<\/a>, both of the company&#8217;s founders are resigning, according to a report from\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/09\/24\/technology\/instagram-cofounders-resign.html\" data-rapid_p=\"2\" data-v9y=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The New York Times<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and confirmed by a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/instagram-press.com\/blog\/2018\/09\/24\/statement-from-kevin-systrom-instagram-co-founder-and-ceo\/\" data-rapid_p=\"3\" data-v9y=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">post on the company&#8217;s blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger served as the company&#8217;s CEO and CTO, respectively, after pivoting the app from a Foursquare-style check-in service called Burbn to focus on photography in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Less than two years after launching an Instagram iOS app, Facebook announced plans to purchase the company.<\/p>\n<p>At the time it had around 30 million users and has since grown to over 800 million.<\/p>\n<p>Their departure brings to mind the path taken by the founders of (fellow Facebook acquisition) Whatsapp,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2018\/04\/30\/jan-koum-whatsapp-facebook\/\" data-rapid_p=\"4\" data-v9y=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jan Koum<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2018\/03\/20\/brian-acton-whatsapp-delete-facebook\/\" data-rapid_p=\"5\" data-v9y=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brian Acton<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Acton left a year ago and later tweeted &#8220;#deleteFacebook&#8221; during revelations over the company&#8217;s privacy issues, while Jan Koum announced his departure earlier this year,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2018\/04\/30\/jan-koum-whatsapp-facebook\/\" data-rapid_p=\"6\" data-v9y=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly due to clashes<\/a>\u00a0over how to handle user data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Update<\/strong>: The news\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/instagram-press.com\/blog\/2018\/09\/24\/statement-from-kevin-systrom-instagram-co-founder-and-ceo\/\" data-rapid_p=\"7\" data-v9y=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has been confirmed<\/a>\u00a0in a blog post written by Systrom.<\/p>\n<p>There was no indication of any issues as he said that the two are &#8220;now ready for our next chapter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"js-notMobileReferredByFbTw\">\n<div id=\"engadget-post-continued-contents\" class=\"o-article_block pb-15 pb-5@m- mt-n35 mt-n25@m mt-n15@s\" data-ylk=\"sec:postcontinuedcontents;slk:Instagram%20founders%20resign%20from%20Facebook;elm:hdln;itc:0;\">\n<div class=\"grid@tl+\">\n<div class=\"full-width@tp- grid@tl+__cell col-8-of-12@tl+\">\n<div class=\"article-text c-gray-1 no-review\">\n<p><strong>Kevin Systrom:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Mike and I are grateful for the last eight years at Instagram and six years with the Facebook team. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;ve grown from 13 people to over a thousand with offices around the world, all while building products used and loved by a community of over one billion. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;re now ready for our next chapter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;re planning on taking some time off to explore our curiosity and creativity again. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Building new things requires that we step back, understand what inspires us and match that with what the world needs;
