Several youths who have been involved in People Power protests in Kampala and other parts of the country have gone into hiding after learning that the police are hunting for them.<\/p>\n
A wave of protests have hit Uganda since last year, in which youth demonstrated against government policies.<\/p>\n
In some of these protests were\u00a0 demonstrating against lifting of the presidential term age limit, while others demonstrated against the Over The Top ( OTT) Tax which was levied on social media and Mobile Money transactions.<\/p>\n
The most recent protests were those in which youth in Kampala, Mukono, Mityana, Gomba, Arua, Masaka, Gulu and districts protested the arrest of MPs Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, Francis Zaake, Gerald Karuhanga, Kassiano Wadri and several People Power politicians who were arrested in Arua.<\/p>\n
Sources reveal that numerous youth have been arrested for participating in these riots while others have fled into hiding for fear of arrest.<\/p>\n
Amongst those believed to be in hiding is Andrew Nsubuga, 36 years old, who was the patron of People Power in Kamwokya. It is said that Nsubuga was heading about 59 group members, with who he staged riots in Kamwokya, Bukoto and Ntinda areas.<\/p>\n
They are all wanted by police to face charge of organizing unlawful assemblies, rioting when members of Parliament were arrested in Arua, distribution of People Power items like T-shirts, Caps and bandanas, opposing OTT tax (Mobile money and social media tax).<\/p>\n
However, on learning that the police is hunting for them, Nsubuga and most of his People Power group members are hiding around city suburbs while others have since vanished and their whereabouts remain unknown to date.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
