A 24-year-old security guard has drowned in a swimming pool at a residential property in Naguru, Kampala, in an incident police are investigating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deceased has been identified as Andrew Tumusiime, a resident of Hoima District who was employed by SGA Security Services and deployed to guard a residence on Plot 10, Naguru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to accounts from people at the scene, Tumusiime was discovered in the swimming pool after his colleague, Edison Kyaligonza, arrived for the daytime shift and could not locate him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kyaligonza reportedly initially assumed that Tumusiime had briefly left the premises after noticing that a small gate was open. However, after waiting for him to return without success, he called Tumusiime’s mobile phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The phone reportedly rang from the direction of the swimming pool. Kyaligonza followed the sound and found Tumusiime’s clothes near the pool before discovering his body in the water. He then alerted the security company’s office, which contacted police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Preliminary accounts indicate that Tumusiime may have been recording himself while swimming before he drowned in a deeper section of the pool. Local residents suggested he could have been making a video for social media or sending it to friends and relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, police had not officially confirmed that Tumusiime was recording himself at the time of the incident, and reports about possible alcohol involvement also remained unverified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The occupants of the residence had reportedly left the property about two days before the incident, leaving Tumusiime and another guard responsible for security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident has raised questions in the area about the safety of private security guards working at properties equipped with swimming pools and other facilities. Residents said guards can become familiar with facilities at homes where they are deployed and may attempt to use them without adequate swimming skills or supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police reportedly cordoned off the residence as investigations continued. Scene-of-Crime and homicide officers were expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the death and establish exactly how Tumusiime ended up in the pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident comes amid renewed attention to swimming-pool safety in Kampala. In July 2026, a 10-year-old pupil drowned during a swimming lesson at Hill Preparatory School in Naguru, prompting police investigations into supervision and safety arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
