Police in Kasese District are investigating an overnight attack on Bugoye Sub-County Police Station in which a suspected attacker was shot dead after a group armed with pangas attempted to seize a police officer\u2019s firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident occurred at about 2:00am on Thursday, October 1, 2026, in Bugoye Sub-County, according to police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Preliminary information indicates that a group of about six people armed with pangas attacked the police station and targeted the officer who was on duty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attackers reportedly attempted to disarm the officer and take his firearm, prompting him to resist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the confrontation, the officer fired at the attackers, shooting one of them in the leg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The injured suspect managed to flee from the scene, but was later found dead a short distance from the police station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police said the identity of the deceased had not yet been established by the time of the update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Four suspects have, however, been arrested in connection with the attack. They have been identified as Irumba Simon, Kiiza Abson, Kadama George and Baluku Lenaxi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A panga believed to have been used during the attack was recovered at the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination as detectives continue efforts to establish his identity and determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police are also pursuing other suspects who fled the scene and are working to establish the motive behind the attack on the police facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities have appealed to members of the public with information that could help identify or locate the suspects still at large to report to the nearest police station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Residents have also been urged to report any suspicious activity that could be connected to the incident as investigations continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
