The Government of Uganda has renewed its call for a peaceful resolution to conflicts in the Middle East, while affirming its support for Israel\u2019s existence and the rights of Palestinians to have their own state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement issued Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ugandan government said it \u201ccontinues to call for peaceful resolution of the conflicts in the Middle East,\u201d adding that Uganda does not support wars it considers unjust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda appealed to all parties involved in the region’s conflicts to recognise both the State of Israel and the rights of Palestinians to have their own state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement said many of the complications surrounding the Middle East stem from what it described as failures by different actors to handle the issue justly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The government also addressed the issue of nuclear energy, stressing that its use for peaceful purposes should be governed by international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement did not name a specific country in connection with the nuclear issue, but placed the matter within the broader regional tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda further highlighted sectarian divisions involving religious communities, including Jews, Christians, Sunnis and Shias, warning against politics based on ethnic and religious identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cOur view is that the politics of identity (ethnic, religious) is an ideological and strategic blunder and a poison for any situation,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The government added that some African countries, including Uganda in the past, had been damaged by what it called this \u201cpoison.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
