The Ministry of Works and Transport has directed contractors working on the long-delayed Namungona\u2013Bwaise section of the Kampala Northern Bypass to operate night shifts and utilize off-peak hours in a bid to complete the remaining works within three weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a public notice issued on Monday, Permanent Secretary Bagaya Waiswa announced the resumption of maintenance works on the final 500-metre stretch of the bypass, a critical section that has been a source of frustration for motorists due to prolonged delays and traffic disruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry said contractor Stirling Civil Engineering Ltd has already returned to site and commenced preparations, including the installation of traffic management measures to facilitate construction activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe contractor has been directed to ensure that all outstanding works are completed within the revised schedule, utilizing night shifts and off-peak hours,\u201d the ministry said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the notice, the remaining works are expected to be completed within a period not exceeding three weeks from June 15, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kampala Northern Bypass serves as a key transport corridor linking major routes around the city and easing congestion in the central business district. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, ongoing works on the Namungona\u2013Bwaise section have repeatedly slowed traffic movement, drawing complaints from road users and businesses operating along the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With construction activities now intensifying, motorists have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and exercise caution while passing through the work zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ministry apologized for the inconvenience caused, saying the accelerated work schedule is intended to ensure the project is completed within the revised timeline while minimizing disruption to traffic flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If completed as scheduled, the works will mark the end of repairs on one of the most problematic sections of the bypass, restoring smoother traffic movement along a route used daily by thousands of commuters and cargo transporters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
