{"id":42267,"date":"2026-03-24T12:40:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T09:40:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=42267"},"modified":"2026-03-24T12:40:24","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T09:40:24","slug":"government-begins-upgrade-of-191km-rwenkunye-apac-lira-puranga-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/24\/government-begins-upgrade-of-191km-rwenkunye-apac-lira-puranga-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Begins Upgrade Of 191km Rwenkunye\u2013Apac\u2013Lira\u2013Puranga Road"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Government of Uganda has commenced the long-awaited upgrading of the 191-kilometre Rwenkunye\u2013Apac\u2013Lira\u2013Puranga Road, a major infrastructure project expected to boost connectivity and economic activity across Northern and Mid-Western Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the Ministry of Works and Transport, the road is being upgraded from gravel to bitumen standard under a government initiative supported by the Islamic Development Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project has been divided into two key sections: Lot One covering the 90.9km stretch from Rwenkunye to Apac, and Lot Two spanning 100.1km from Apac through Lira to Puranga.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Construction works are being undertaken by Sak Construction General Trading &amp; Contracting Company, while consultancy services are being provided by Dar Al Handasah Consultants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials said the scope of the project includes the construction of a 7-metre-wide asphalt concrete carriageway, installation of 1.5-metre shoulders, and development of key infrastructure such as drainage systems, swamp crossings, and embankment protection to ensure durability and climate resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to significantly improve mobility and reduce travel time across several districts, including Kiryandongo District, Apac District, Kwania District, Kole District, Lira District, and Pader District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Government officials say the project will not only enhance transport efficiency but also strengthen trade links, ease access to social services, and support regional development in Northern Uganda.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Uganda has commenced the long-awaited upgrading of the 191-kilometre Rwenkunye\u2013Apac\u2013Lira\u2013Puranga Road, a major infrastructure project expected to boost connectivity and economic activity across Northern and Mid-Western Uganda.
