Major maintenance works on the Northern Bypass between Namugoona and Bwaise in Kampala are approaching completion, with contractors entering the final phase of asphalting on a critical section of the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Allan Ssempebwa, the Senior Communications Officer in charge of Roads and Bridges at the Ministry of Works and Transport, the contractor is expected to finalize the two asphalt layers on a recently opened 700-metre stretch within the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ssempebwa said the progress marks a significant milestone in the ongoing rehabilitation of the Namugoona\u2013Bwaise section, which has undergone extensive maintenance works aimed at improving road safety, durability, and traffic flow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that upon completion of the current stretch, works will immediately shift to an additional 250 metres toward Bwaise starting next week. The same asphalting process will be applied to ensure consistency in road quality and longevity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe completion of this next section will effectively mark the substantial completion of the major maintenance works along the Northern Bypass,\u201d Ssempebwa noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Northern Bypass serves as a vital transport corridor, diverting heavy traffic from the city centre and linking key routes across the capital. However, the ongoing works have in recent months caused traffic disruptions, particularly during peak hours, as sections of the road were temporarily closed or restricted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities have expressed appreciation to road users for their patience throughout the construction period, emphasizing that the upgrades will result in a safer and smoother roadway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
