Opposition leader Bobi Wine has accused security forces of violently arresting and assaulting one of his lawyers during a failed attempt to access his home in Magere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement posted on his official X account on Monday morning, Bobi Wine, who also leads the National Unity Platform (NUP), said a team of party lawyers and leaders was blocked by police and military personnel from entering his residence, which he claims has been under siege for the past month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the former presidential candidate, security operatives violently arrested lawyer Kakuru Tumusiime and \u201cbrutalised him\u201d before detaining him for several hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAfter several hours, they dumped him at a police station where he was interrogated about my whereabouts before being released on bond,\u201d Bobi Wine wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that Tumusiime has since been charged with \u201ccommon nuisance,\u201d a misdemeanor under Ugandan law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bobi Wine further alleged that the continued security deployment at his Magere home stems from a raid conducted about a month ago, after which access to the premises has reportedly been restricted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident, he noted, occurred as Uganda marked Janani Luwum Day, a national commemoration in honor of the late Archbishop who was killed in 1977 during the regime of Idi Amin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll this criminality [is] taking place on a day our nation is commemorating Bishop Janani Luwum Day,\u201d Bobi Wine stated, ending his message with the words: \u201cUGANDA WILL BE FREE.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police and the Uganda People\u2019s Defence Forces had not immediately issued an official statement regarding the allegations by press time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
