Shock and grief have gripped Kampala following the death of a nurse shortly after an alleged sexual encounter with a senior doctor at a city lodge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Martin Adupet, 43, a gynaecologist, has been charged with murder in connection with the death of Cissy Kebirungi, a nurse attached to Neo-Genesis Fertility Centre in Bukoto. He was arraigned before the City Hall Chief Magistrate\u2019s Court and remanded to Luzira Prison until March 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to court documents, the incident occurred on February 3 at Palm Gardens Bar and Lodges in Komamboga, Kawempe Division. Prosecutors allege that Dr Adupet unlawfully killed Kebirungi following what police describe as an intimate encounter between the two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said preliminary investigations indicate the pair were long-time friends. They reportedly met at the hangout at about 11:30am, had food and drinks, and later booked a room at the same premises at around 4pm, where they stayed until approximately 8:30pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say that shortly after engaging in intimacy, Kebirungi began experiencing breathing complications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe interrogated Dr Adupet, who told us that after they were intimate, Kebirungi complained of not feeling well and was struggling to breathe,\u201d a police detective involved in the case said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Investigators say the doctor placed her in his vehicle and attempted to rush her to Mulago National Referral Hospital for medical attention. However, she reportedly died along the way on Mawanda Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police say Dr Adupet delivered the body to Mulago Hospital and was advised to report the matter to authorities. He later drove to Universal Police Post, where a report of sudden death was filed before the case was escalated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Detectives and scene of crime officers documented the scene and collected evidence, including CCTV footage from the lodge. According to police, the footage shows Kebirungi arriving at the premises earlier in the day, interacting with staff and later meeting Dr Adupet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The body was conveyed to Kampala City Mortuary for a postmortem examination as investigations continue to establish the exact cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
