President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Tuesday campaigned in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, where he underscored the National Resistance Movement\u2019s long-standing focus on income generation, wealth creation, and job creation as the cornerstone of Uganda\u2019s development agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing residents during a campaign rally held amid heavy rain, President Museveni reflected on Uganda\u2019s past to explain why the NRM places strong emphasis on transforming household incomes alongside national infrastructure development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we were in the bush, the Kampala\u2013Gulu road was already tarmacked, but most people living along it were in grass-thatched or mud houses. Even iron-sheet roofs stood on mud walls,\u201d Museveni said. \u201cDevelopment existed, but household wealth did not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that this reality shaped the NRM\u2019s philosophy, which prioritises empowering families to generate income and escape poverty, rather than focusing solely on visible infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President stressed that commercial agriculture remains the government\u2019s first priority in driving wealth creation, noting that farming must be done correctly to be profitable. He said farmers with small pieces of land should adopt intensive production methods, while those with larger tracts can benefit from extensive farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEnterprise choice is very important. What you decide to do with your land determines whether you make money or remain poor,\u201d Museveni told the gathering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also highlighted Wakiso District\u2019s strategic advantage as a hub for artisanship, workshops, and industries, saying these sectors have the potential to create thousands of jobs and expand household incomes, especially for the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWakiso benefits greatly from artisans, workshops and industries. These are key sources of jobs and wealth,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Museveni commended the people of Nansana for their resilience and commitment, thanking them for braving the rain to listen to his message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thank the people of Nansana who stood in the rain to hear this message about wealth creation and jobs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
