President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has called on leaders and young people in Mukono District to prioritise practical leadership, active participation, and accountability in government programmes, warning that poor supervision continues to undermine efforts to improve household incomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing residents at a campaign rally in Naggalama, Mukono District, the President thanked the people for their warm reception and used the occasion to emphasise that leadership must be anchored in identifying real community needs and delivering tangible solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLeadership is about understanding the problems of the people and working deliberately to solve them,\u201d Museveni said, noting that programmes such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) can only succeed if leaders closely monitor their implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He cautioned that when leaders either undermine government initiatives or fail to supervise them effectively, it is ordinary citizens who bear the cost. According to the President, mismanagement and lax oversight weaken programmes designed to fight poverty at the grassroots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Turning to the youth, Museveni urged young people to go beyond social excitement and slogans, and instead actively engage in decision-making spaces that shape development outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou can talk about vibe, yes, but also attend meetings, participate in these programmes, and vote for leaders who deliver results\u2014not those who only talk,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President stressed that youth participation is critical to ensuring that initiatives like PDM achieve their intended purpose of boosting household incomes and expanding economic opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Museveni also reaffirmed his commitment to addressing long-standing community concerns across the region, announcing that his next stop in neighbouring Buikwe District would focus on land-related issues\u2014a subject that has remained a source of tension and livelihood insecurity for many residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
