President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has promised to establish a coffee-processing facility in Ibanda District to help farmers earn more from their harvests. Speaking at a rally, the President said the government is ready to support the district under the Parish Development Model (PDM), including supplying free coffee seedlings through government nurseries to increase production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that the proposed plant \u2014 requested by the people of Ibanda \u2014 would enable farmers to process their coffee locally, rather than selling it in raw form. Museveni encouraged residents to diversify their income-generating activities as well, including poultry, piggery, and livestock farming, all of which fall under PDM\u2019s targeted enterprises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local leaders used the event to highlight Ibanda\u2019s strong potential in coffee production. The district currently has over 28,000 acres under coffee, yielding more than 14,000 tons a year and generating billions of shillings in revenue. However, many farmers still lack modern drying and processing equipment at the parish level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A farmer from Nyabuhikye Sub-county shared his own success story, revealing that he earns over 40 million shillings per season from his 8-acre coffee farm. Museveni praised such achievements and reiterated that coffee remains one of Uganda\u2019s biggest household-income drivers and a vital export commodity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President also noted that Ibanda District and its municipality have already benefited from the Parish Development Model, receiving nearly 22 billion shillings which has been distributed across dozens of SACCOs and used to support more than 18,000 households with farming and business projects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
