The Ministry of Works and Transport has issued a traffic advisory warning motorists to avoid a severely damaged section of the Karuma\u2013Kamdini road, after continued rainfall caused further deterioration on the Gulu Highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The affected stretch, located approximately 1 kilometer from the Karuma\u2013Olwiyo\/Pakwach junction (URA checkpoint from the Kampala side), has now lost more than half of its carriageway, making it unsafe for all traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Ministry, the collapse is a result of persistent heavy rains that have weakened the embankment, causing the road to widen and break away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFor public safety, the section is now hoarded off as we mobilize for emergency restoration works,\u201d said Bageya Waiswa, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Works and Transport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All motorists have been advised to use a diversion at the Karuma\u2013Pakwach junction (URA checkpoint) and proceed to Olwiyo Trading Centre \u2014 a stretch of about 51 km \u2014 before turning right through Anaka to Gulu (about 62 km). The same diversion applies in reverse for motorists traveling from Gulu towards Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry emphasized that further updates will be issued as restoration progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Motorists have been urged to strictly avoid the affected stretch to prevent accidents as emergency works are set to begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
