Edward Katumba Wamala on Tuesday launched a new ferry route across Lake Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">MV Rafiki , with a 250-passenger capacity will connect Islanders on Bukasa Island, Kalangala District, to the mainland. The vessel will connect directly from Entebbe (Nakiwogo) to Bukasa Islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development is anchored on a public\u2013private partnership between the Government of Uganda and Nation Oil Distributors Ltd (NODL) to deliver safe, affordable, and reliable water transport between Entebbe\/Kampala and the Kalangala Islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gen. Wamala reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to leveraging water transport as a sustainable mode of connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe plan is to expand ferry service coverage on Lake Victoria further. We\u2019re currently working on a project to acquire two large-capacity ferries with a capacity of more than 500 pax to ease connectivity between the Islands of Koome, Damba, and Busi to&nbsp;the&nbsp;mainland,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.ug\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/katumba-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-345735\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Minister of Works and Transport, Gen.
