President Yoweri Museveni has called on Uganda\u2019s religious leaders to move beyond spiritual duties and take an active role in driving community development, as the Orthodox Church officially elevated Mityana Diocese to a Holy Metropolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President\u2019s message was delivered by Lands Minister Judith Nabakooba during the installation of His Eminence Nektarios Lubega as the first Metropolitan of the newly established Holy Metropolis of Mityana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPreaching alone is not enough. Religious leaders should also be champions of development and uplift the communities they serve,\u201d Museveni said in a written statement. He commended the Orthodox Church for its contribution to education, healthcare, and social welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Cathedral of St. Nektarios on Mount Sinai Kawanga Hill, marked a significant transformation of what was a forested area just four years ago. Under Metropolitan Nektarios\u2019s leadership, the site now hosts a church, a primary school, and several community facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat you see today is a testament to faith, unity, and purpose,\u201d Nektarios said. \u201cThis is not my personal triumph, but a collective achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony was presided over by His Beatitude Metropolitan Gregory of Boston, president of the Holy Synod of America, who urged Nektarios to lead with humility and dedication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of his vision, Metropolitan Nektarios announced plans to construct a hospital to provide free healthcare to underserved communities. Minister Nabakooba officiated the groundbreaking ceremony and praised the Orthodox Church\u2019s efforts as a model of \u201cfaith in action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe urge other religious institutions to follow your lead,\u201d she said. \u201cFrom schools to hospitals, you are directly contributing to Uganda\u2019s development.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nektarios also revealed plans for a \u201cHouse of Healing\u201d to support the elderly, orphans, and the sick, and thanked the President for upholding religious freedom in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
