The government of Uganda has begun the evacuation of its citizens stranded in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Israel, following the outbreak of armed conflict between the two nations on June 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that 48 Ugandan students are being evacuated from Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry said it is working closely with diplomatic missions, regional embassies, and relevant foreign governments to coordinate the rescue effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs part of our established evacuation plan, we have registered Ugandan students in Iran and received information on Ugandans stranded in Israel through parents, relatives, and concerned citizens,\u201d the Ministry stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With Iran and Israel having closed their airspace, officials say logistical challenges and delays are affecting the pace of evacuation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Uganda is in talks with neighboring countries T\u00fcrkiye, Azerbaijan, and Jordan to facilitate safe passage and grant visas on arrival to fleeing nationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ugandan embassies in T\u00fcrkiye, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar have been directed to provide consular support and receive evacuees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These missions will also help process their return home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of all Ugandans affected by the crisis and encouraged families to reach out for updates and assistance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
