Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Francis Zaake has called on young people across Uganda to actively participate in the upcoming National Youth Council elections, set for June 19, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Wednesday morning, Zaake revealed that the party will officially launch its youth campaign activities this Saturday, June 7, in all constituencies and districts nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have encouraged our members to convene and participate. The youth should get in touch with their respective registrars and mobilization chairpersons to get prepared,\u201d said Zaake, a prominent youth leader within the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The youth elections are part of Uganda\u2019s Special Interest Group (SIG) electoral process that gives structured representation to young people at local and national levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Zaake also disclosed that the party\u2019s Electoral Management Committee (EMC) has been overwhelmed by the high number of aspiring youth leaders during the ongoing Expression of Interest exercise. \u201cAll the 40,000 forms have been depleted in just the first week,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He assured party members of a transparent and fair selection process. \u201cThe EMC is committed to impartiality and shall maintain zero tolerance to corruption of any form as we receive applications from eligible party members,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The application period for youth council aspirants will remain open until June 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Youth Council elections come at a critical time for Uganda\u2019s youth, who make up over 70% of the country\u2019s population. Political observers say the growing interest in SIG elections could indicate increased political engagement among young Ugandans ahead of the 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
