Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among has reaffirmed her unwavering loyalty to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, declaring she will never betray the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairman under whose leadership she rose to national prominence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among made the bold declaration while meeting over 160 NRM delegates from Kabarole and Rukiga districts, who had gathered to endorse her bid for Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) \u2014 a seat she is contesting against incumbent Rebecca Kadaga ahead of the party\u2019s national delegates\u2019 conference scheduled for August at Namboole Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI want to thank President Museveni for creating an environment where we can freely engage with our people and campaign without fear. He has unified this country and built strong collaboration among Parliament, the Executive, and the Judiciary,\u201d Among said. \u201cYou will never hear that I have passed a vote of no confidence in President Museveni. I will never do that\u2014not me, not any of the Members of Parliament who support me. That is not how I operate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among\u2019s loyalty to Museveni dates back to her dramatic transition from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to the NRM \u2014 a move that many political observers say helped neutralize opposition forces within Parliament and solidify the ruling party\u2019s influence in legislative affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Campaigning in Rukiga, Among emphasized unity, development, and support for President Museveni\u2019s sole candidature as the party\u2019s unopposed presidential flag bearer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen I take on the role of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), I will use it strategically to mobilize for the party across the country,\u201d she said. \u201cAs Speaker of Parliament, I understand the importance of coordinating with the party leadership. I promise that no district under my influence will lag behind in supporting President Museveni.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among stressed the importance of placing trusted and tested leaders in the party’s top decision-making organs, saying her presence in such roles ensures strong coordination between Parliament and the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo far, I have received overwhelming support from across the country,\u201d she added. \u201cDistricts including Isingiro, Rakai, Masaka, Bukomansimbi, Kyotera, Lyantonde, Masaka City, Bugiri, Iganga, Mayuge, Kaliro, Buyende, Namayingo, and Bugweri have all pledged their support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the NRM gears up for a critical delegates\u2019 conference, the race between Among and Kadaga promises to be one of the most watched contests \u2014 a clash between two powerful women who have both served at the pinnacle of Uganda\u2019s political establishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
