The National Resistance Movement (NRM) First National Vice Chairman, Alhajji Moses Kigongo, and Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, on Sunday met with newly elected district, city, and municipality chairpersons in a push to strengthen leadership and accountability within the party structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting, held at Hotel Africana in Kampala, is part of a three-day retreat aimed at reinforcing service delivery under the theme \u201cStrengthening Leadership and Accountability for Enhanced Service Delivery.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flanked by NRM Vice Chairman for the Western Region and Minister for ICT, Chris Baryomunsi, the party leaders congratulated the new office bearers and urged them to stay committed to the party\u2019s values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alhajji Kigongo advised the local leaders to maintain flexibility in leadership and adapt where necessary to meet their targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIf there is a need to change tactics to achieve a certain goal, you should do that,\u201d Kigongo told the leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He cautioned against internal divisions, warning those intending to run as independents after losing party primaries to desist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe party will not accept this kind of mess. Many people want to join the movement; do not chase them away. NRM is a mass party that can accommodate everyone,\u201d Kigongo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NRM Secretary General Todwong used the platform to announce a planned amendment to the Local Government Act that would formally recognize NRM chairpersons from village to district levels as ex-officio members of their respective councils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are planning to amend the Local Government Act so that we can have all NRM Chairpersons from the village level to the district level become ex-officials,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Todwong also called on the new chairpersons to reconnect with the electorate and close the gap between the leadership and citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting comes at a time when the ruling party is preparing for internal primaries and a broader national mobilization strategy ahead of the 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
