After 14 years as a cornerstone of Uganda\u2019s sports and entertainment scene, Legends Rugby Grounds commonly known as Lugogo Rugby Grounds\u2014has officially closed its doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a public notice issued by management, the facility announced its immediate closure following the expiration of its lease on Plot 1 & 3 Sports Lane, Lugogo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The announcement marks the end of an era for one of Kampala\u2019s most iconic venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are deeply grateful for 14 unforgettable years of sports, hospitality, and entertainment,\u201d the statement read. \u201cYour unwavering support has meant everything to us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since opening in 2010, Legends became a hub for rugby tournaments, music festivals, public screenings, and private events. It played a vital role in developing rugby in Uganda, serving as a home ground and training facility for top-tier clubs including KCB Kobs, Panthers, Warriors, Rhinos, and Rams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The closure is a major blow to the local sports community. Beyond rugby, Legends contributed significantly to Kampala\u2019s cultural and social life, offering a versatile space for gatherings of all kinds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the venue also faced mounting challenges over the years. In addition to operational costs, Legends grappled with increasing tax obligations, which led to a temporary closure by the Uganda Revenue Authority earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite these difficulties, news of its closure has sparked an outpouring of tributes from fans, athletes, and nightlife lovers across social media\u2014many reminiscing about the venue\u2019s role in shaping Uganda\u2019s entertainment and sports scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In its farewell message, the management thanked supporters for their loyalty and hinted at the possibility of future ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
