The Secretary General of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Richard Todwong, has urged party cadres to take an active role in fighting poverty through financial discipline and economic empowerment at the household level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during the passing out ceremony of over 800 \u2018Museveni ku Ntikko\u2019 cadre coordinators at Green Kard Gardens in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District, Todwong challenged the newly inducted members to go beyond political mobilisation and champion responsible financial practices in their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs NRM cadres, we should learn strong personal financial discipline. You need to start challenging your expenditures,\u201d Todwong said, stressing the importance of savings and economic prudence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that promoting financial literacy and discipline among citizens would not only uplift household incomes but also align with the NRM\u2019s broader development vision of transforming the lives of Ugandans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs we support NRM and President Museveni, we also need to educate you to live a good life at home,\u201d he said, underlining that the party’s mission includes the social and economic well-being of its supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Todwong also reiterated the party\u2019s stance on volunteerism, warning against the monetisation of grassroots political support. He revealed that the NRM had previously disbanded several voluntary groups found to be exploiting members financially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019ve written and warned them not even to collect money from their members. If someone comes voluntarily, let it be voluntarily, not on money,\u201d Todwong stated, warning that the party would not hesitate to distance itself from financially motivated groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
