Carol Kagezi, the daughter of the late Senior Principal State Attorney Joan Kagezi, on Tuesday delivered emotional testimony in the trial of three suspects accused of her mother\u2019s murder nearly a decade ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Appearing before the International Crimes Division of the High Court in Kampala, Carol recounted the harrowing moment in 2015 when her mother was gunned down in their vehicle while purchasing mangoes from a roadside stall in Kiwatule, a Kampala suburb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cShe was shot twice in the neck right before my eyes,\u201d she testified, drawing a somber atmosphere in the courtroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Her testimony came just a day after Daniel Kiwanuka Kisekka, a former Uganda People\u2019s Defence Forces (UPDF) soldier, pleaded guilty to his role in the assassination. Kisekka was convicted and sentenced to 35 years in prison on Monday. In a surprising turn, he agreed to become a state witness, a move expected to bolster the prosecution\u2019s case against the remaining suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kagezi, who served as Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, was known for handling high-profile terrorism and war crimes cases. Her assassination on March 30, 2015, shocked the nation and drew international condemnation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prosecution says her murder was a targeted attack orchestrated to disrupt her work on sensitive cases, including those involving al-Shabaab terror suspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
