{"id":39553,"date":"2025-05-07T13:08:38","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T10:08:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=39553"},"modified":"2025-05-07T13:08:39","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T10:08:39","slug":"upc-opens-nominations-for-sigs-and-party-presidency-raises-concern-over-missing-voters-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/07\/upc-opens-nominations-for-sigs-and-party-presidency-raises-concern-over-missing-voters-register\/","title":{"rendered":"UPC Opens Nominations for SIGs and Party Presidency, Raises Concern Over Missing Voters Register"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Uganda People&#8217;s Congress (UPC) has officially launched the nomination process for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and presidential aspirants, urging its members to actively engage in the electoral roadmap ahead of the 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to a statement issued by the party spokesperson, Arach Oyat Sharon, the picking and returning of application forms for SIGs representatives including Youth, Persons with Disabilities, and Older Persons began on May 5 and will close on May 10, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe forms are available through the Party District Chairpersons and Regional Vice Chairpersons across the country,\u201d the statement noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For positions where more than one aspirant emerges, UPC will hold internal party primaries between May 15 and 17, 2025. The development comes ahead of the Independent Electoral Commission\u2019s (IEC) nomination period for Village SIG Committees, scheduled for June 2 to 10, with polling set for June 16 to 19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UPC has called upon all party structures to mobilize aggressively at the grassroots level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe urge our leaders and members to ensure UPC sweeps SIGs positions at village level while aligning with the IEC roadmap,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite commending the IEC for managing the national voters\u2019 register display process, UPC expressed deep concern over delays in delivering the SIGs register to several villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe have received multiple reports that the Register for the Special Interest Groups has not yet reached most of the villages.
