The President of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Patrick Oboi Amuriat, has officially taken a leave of absence from his duties as he seeks the party’s nomination for presidential flag bearer ahead of the 2026 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a letter addressed to the FDC Chief Electoral Commissioner, Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda, Amuriat stated that his nomination is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2025, after which he will commence campaign activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI write on the above subject matter in conformity with the party’s internal election guidelines. I will be nominating as Presidential flag bearer… and thereafter proceed with the campaigns,\u201d Amuriat stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To ensure continuity of party leadership during his absence, Amuriat appointed Hon. Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, the Deputy President for Northern Uganda and former MP for Obongi County, as Acting Party President. The letter was also copied to FDC Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The announcement quickly gained traction on several West Nile region WhatsApp platforms, where users welcomed the appointment of Fungaroo. One post in the “Obongi We Want” group read, \u201cEyalama noi noi Patrick for delegating our intelligent Hon. Hassan Kaps Fungaroo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the “West Nile Agenda” platform, Arua City Assistant Resident Commissioner Richard Job Matua commented, \u201cHow are you going to harmonize the relationship with PFF, which is getting its certificate of registration very soon? A very good morning, my senior brother Hassan Kaps Fungaroo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a phone interview, Fungaroo confirmed his appointment and stated that he had accepted the role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI thank the FDC party president, Patrick Oboi Amuriat, for entrusting me with the responsibility of taking charge of the Office of the Party President,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fungaroo pledged to ensure stability within the party during this transitional period and promised to lead active engagement in internal activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI will manage day-to-day operations, attend meetings, respond to correspondence, host visitors, and conduct field visits where necessary,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized his commitment to strengthening the party’s position in preparation for the 2026 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOne of my responsibilities during this tenure is to keep the dream of change alive. I will also work with fellow leaders to oversee transparent and harmonious FDC primary elections.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
