The agricultural sector in Uganda has seen remarkable growth under the implementation of the 2021-2026 NRM manifesto commitments, according to the latest government report presented at the PPP Forum on November 27, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sector grew by 5.1% in the financial year 2023\/24, contributing 24.6% to the national GDP. In monetary terms, Uganda\u2019s agricultural GDP surged from UGX 35.360 trillion in FY 2020\/21 to UGX 49.722 trillion in FY 2023\/24. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, agricultural exports expanded by an impressive 42%, rising from USD 1.678 billion to USD 2.535 billion within the same period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government attributes this growth to the prioritization of key interventions, including agricultural commercialization and industrialization, post-harvest handling, primary processing, mechanization, and irrigation development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Key Achievements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

  1. Agricultural Commercialization and Industrialization:<\/strong> Investments in value chain development, research, and extension services have boosted production and improved export quality. Crops such as coffee, dairy, fish, and maize have seen significant growth in both volume and quality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Post-Harvest Handling & Storage:<\/strong> The government has emphasized reducing post-harvest losses by improving storage infrastructure and handling techniques.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Value Addition & Processing:<\/strong> The establishment of agro-processing facilities has enhanced Uganda\u2019s ability to refine raw agricultural produce into higher-value products, increasing market competitiveness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Mechanization:<\/strong> Increased access to mechanized farming tools has improved productivity and efficiency, reducing reliance on traditional farming methods.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Water for Production & Irrigation:<\/strong> Expansion of irrigation infrastructure has helped mitigate the effects of climate change, ensuring year-round agricultural activity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
