Four sub-counties in the Sironko district are cut off following the collapse of the ladders that connect them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ladders were destroyed by rolling stones triggered by landslides on Sunday. The affected are Butandinga, Buchabo, Bugitimwa sub-counties, and, Butandinga town council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Works and Transport Ministry constructed Sigwa Metalic ladders in 2019 to help people from three hard-to-reach sub-countries access the lower part of the district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Butandinga sub county LC III Chairperson, Sunday Ezekiel Nabubolo told our reporter on the phone that the landslides were triggered by rains that hit the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explains that rolling stones damaged the ladders cutting off the connection between the four sub counties. According to Nabubolo, currently, people from upper Sironko can’t move to the lowlands to access schools, health centers, and markets among other services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called for government intervention to replace the ladders since it’s the only connection to the hard-to-reach areas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Budadiri East Member of Parliament, Isiah Sasaga Wanzira, says that he has instructed the local leaders to compile a report and submit it to the district disaster management team before handing it off to him to present it on the floor of parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He urged residents to stay calm and not risk using the damaged ladders until it is fixed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The landslides also destroyed crops like coffee, maize, and bananas among others in villages like Maluku village, Jewa, Maluku, Gaboji, Gidega, Jew, Naludoyi, and Zebu villages among others in the Butandinga sub-county.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
