Veteran Journalist Julius Mucunguzi has been named the new Spokesperson of the Electoral Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He succeeds Paul Bukenya, who temporarily held the position following the departure of Jotham Taremwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“After an extensive selection process last year, Mr. Mucunguzi Julius emerged as the prime candidate for the Head of Public Relations role at the Electoral Commission,” stated Bukenya, now serving as the Principal Public Relations Officer at the EC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Consequently, Mucunguzi has received a formal letter of appointment and is scheduled to begin his duties on April 1st, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We warmly welcome Mr. Mucunguzi to the Electoral Commission team and wish him every success in his new capacity,” added Bukenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mucunguzi previously served as a communication specialist at the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) during Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda’s tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His appointment coincides with the electoral body’s ongoing recruitment efforts to replace retirees and bolster preparations for the 2026 elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before his latest role, Mucunguzi served as the spokesperson for Africa at the Commonwealth Secretariat, an international intergovernmental organization representing 53 former British colonies. He joined the Commonwealth Secretariat in 2006 after working as a senior communications officer at World Vision Uganda. Additionally, Mucunguzi has lectured on journalism at Makerere University’s Department of Mass Communication.
