The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has restated the church’s dedication to eradicating violence against women and girls in various spheres, including homes, schools, workplaces, and public spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Archbishop Kaziimba emphasizes the biblical principle that all individuals are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-28). Thus, it is crucial to dismantle barriers hindering women and girls from accessing equal opportunities and fulfilling their God-given purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Archbishop Kaziimba made these remarks during a press statement at the Church of Uganda’s International Women’s Day celebrations held at St. Stephen’s Church of Uganda in Kumi District, Kumi Diocese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his four-day pastoral visit to Kumi Diocese, Archbishop Kaziimba highlighted the Church of Uganda’s commitment to supporting victims of GBV through counseling services and establishing safe spaces, such as Mothers Union, Fathers Union, Youth, and Children Ministries. Additionally, he pledged to enhance programs for the boy child across all churches to nurture responsible men in the future, urging parents to uphold positive parenting practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Acknowledging the invaluable support from partners like Dan Church Aid (DCA), Archbishop Kaziimba commended the successful implementation of Women’s Economic Empowerment projects in various districts, including Kumi, Rakai, Sembabule, Lwengo, and Bukedea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a media interview, Rev. Andrew Agaba, Director of Household and Community Transformation, emphasized the importance of building the capacity of women and girls to engage in income-generating activities, participate in decision-making processes, and contribute to a more prosperous society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the theme “Accelerating Gender Equality through Economic Empowerment,” Church of Uganda celebrated Women’s Day, underscoring its commitment to fostering gender parity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Archbishop Kaziimba, together with Bishop Micheal Okwii Esarkan and fellow Christians, reclaimed churches and properties previously seized by the Reformed Anglican Church under Charles Okunya, condemning the unlawful actions and urging repentance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
