<\/p>\nAfter three days of nonstop strikes at Makerere University, the administration has finally succumbed to pressure and suspended the new fees policy.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is to inform you that following consultations with the Chairperson Makerere University Council, it has been agreed that the new fees on selected programmes in the College of Health Sciences (CHS), College Veterinary Medicine and Bio Security (COVAB), and College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) be suspended until consultations are made with the Students Guild for their input,\u201d reads the letter signed by Makerere university Vice Chancellor, Professor Barnabas Nawangwe.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is, therefore, to inform you that the new proposed fees are suspended until these consultations are concluded.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nawangwe thanked the students\u2019 guild for maximum cooperation in resolving the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cI thank the Guild President, Speaker, Prime Minister and the entire GRC for their cooperation during the consultative meeting we have had today. Together, we have returned our university to normal operations,\u201d tweeted Nawangwe before adding that;<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have agreed to work together to avoid unnecessary riots through constant consultations on issues that affect our students. I call upon all our students to return to their studies & prepare for the forthcoming examinations and I wish everybody success in the examinations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Uganda Police political commissar, AIGP Asan Kasingye who was part of the meeting, thanked the Vice Chancellor on how he handled the issue.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you for the amicable settlement of the standoff at Makerere University. VC, you have my respect in the way you handled the issue. Much respect,\u201d said Kasingye.<\/p>\n
