The trial of a 28-year-old businesswoman has been rescheduled for September 26, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is accused of taking a car from the late Apollo Nyegamahe, also known as Aponye, at his Rukiga district burial. The vehicle belongs to Kigezi Diocese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shamim Batariro, a resident of Wakiso district’s Ruhinja village, is charged with stealing a grey Suzuki car bearing the license plate UAT 478N on July 12, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clergy from Kikungiri Archdeaconry, under the direction of Archdeacon Venerable Canon Amos Tweteise, were driven in the vehicle to the funeral in Kitaburaza village, Muhanga town council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rumor has it that Batariro stopped over in Rubare town before moving on with her trek at night. Nevertheless, at around 10:00 p.m., she was stopped by police at the Nyeihanga town council checkpoint, thus her luck ran out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Notifications were dispatched to various police stations along the Kabale-Mbarara highway after a stolen car complaint was made at the Muhanga police station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Batariro was discovered to be in possession of nine master keys for vehicles, five marijuana sticks, 500,000 Shillings in cash, two egg trays, and traditional herbs wrapped in the fibers of dry bananas after her arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was first taken into custody at the Rwampara police station and then moved to the Rukiga police station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was hauled before the court on July 18, 2023, and accused of breaking sections 254 and 265 of the Penal Code Act by stealing a car worth 17.7 million Shillings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On August 10, the Kabale Chief Magistrates Court started holding hearings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But on Tuesday, Kabale Grade One Magistrate His Worship Julius Mutabazi said that the case would be rescheduled for September 26, 2023, citing the fact that Kabale Chief Magistrate Derrick Byamugisha is presently engaged in official business.
