{"id":3698,"date":"2018-04-14T04:28:17","date_gmt":"2018-04-14T01:28:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=3698"},"modified":"2018-04-14T04:28:17","modified_gmt":"2018-04-14T01:28:17","slug":"government-to-spend-shs700m-on-oxygen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2018\/04\/14\/government-to-spend-shs700m-on-oxygen\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to Spend Shs700m on Oxygen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ministry of Health needs an additional Shs700million for 14 regional referral hospitals and Health Centre IVs to cater for maintenance of oxygen plants.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing before the Parliament Committee on Health, the Minister of state for Health &amp; General Duties, Dr Ruth Aceng said with the funds and better oxygen plants, there would be a reduction in deaths\u00a0 due to lack of oxygen.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister made this clarification after MPs raised concern following the death of babies as reported in media on 4th April 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The media reported that three babies died due to lack of oxygen at Kawempe Referral Hospital, which is currently handling Mulago National Referral Hospital\u2019s obstetrics and gynaecology department.<\/p>\n<p>According to the reports, the three pre-term babies died after the oxygen in the cylinder they were sharing got used up.<\/p>\n<p>Aceng clarified that the babies did not die due to lack of oxygen but due to an accident that occurred while switching the oxygen cylinders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was unfortunate the 54 year old lost two of her children.
