Charles Okello Engola, the State Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, was shot by his security at close range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Engola was shot on Tuesday as he got into his car to leave for work at his home in Kyanja, according to Police Spokesperson Fred Enaga. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Private Wilson Sabiti has been identified by the police as the bodyguard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enaga added that Ronald Otim, Engola’s ADC, had suffered serious wounds and was being treated at Mulago Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enaga claims that Sabiti shot Engola multiple times at close range, instantly killing him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enaga continues, saying that after killing the minister, the bodyguard escaped the scene and went to the trading district at Kyanja, Ring Road, where he went inside a salon and killed himself as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enaga claims that the reason for the shooting has not yet been determined. According to him, a detective team has been sent to the crime scene to conduct additional inquiries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Engola served in the military and oversaw the UPDF 501 Brigade in Opit, in the Gulu District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2007, he retired from the military after being elevated to the rank of colonel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He held the position of Oyam District LCV Chairperson for two terms while running for the NRM party’s nomination for president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was chosen as the representative for Oyam North in 2016 and re-elected in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
