Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has expressed concern over continuous fires which have on several times gutted properties of Ugandans worth millions leaving them helpless, an incident which the party believe someone could be behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The remarks came a few hours after property worth millions of shillings perished in a fire that gutted part of Kisenyi area next to Pastor David Kiganda\u2019s Church on Monday morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of the items that were destroyed include; maize mills, poultry feeds store, and maize stores, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Traders in Kisenyi were seen trying to save some of their property but all their efforts were futile.Other businessmen were seen standing next to their stock which had also been destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
UPDF and the Police Fire Department later came and put out the fire that broke out at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is suspected that the fire broke out around 2 am to 4 am and by the time the fire brigade team arrived, it only managed to prevent further damage as other items had been burnt to ashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Security has been beefed up at the site of the inferno to avoid looting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing the media on Monday at the party headquarters, the deputy FDC spokesperson, John Kikonyogo said these fires must not be taken lightly , adding that this has been a common occurrence in that area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFDC sends in its sympathies to the Ugandans who this morning woke up to shock and pain of loss of property, money and many other valuables to fire in Kakajo zone, Kisenyi business area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kikonyogo said that these fires in the Kisenyi business area raise questions of who is the interested party in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSometime back you remember we had fires in Park Yard. Many occasions fire was burning people\u2019s property until when people left the area and new buildings were put up and fires stopped. We are not insinuating that some people want to put up the buildings around where people lost their property are responsible but we are curious as a party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that as FDC they have been demanding to understand the cause of these fires but no report has ever been produced in that regard by police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll schools that were burnt in Uganda there is no report. When they are holding their press conferences (the police). They have suggested that it is the arsonists who are doing these burning but no report has come out up to now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leaders have said it is unfortunate that after police conducted their investigations into past fires, no clear reports have been produced for Ugandans to understand the cause of these fires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They believe that there is a need for a serious discussion on how to address these \u201cferocious fire outbreaks\u201d where the police have failed to deliver reports and solutions from their investigations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
