Entebbe municipality authorities have taken an immediate move to redecorate the children\u2019s park with more appropriate colours few days after one of the rainbow paintings caused a storm on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The colours of the rainbow in most cases represent the diversity of the homosexual (LGBTQ) community which is illegal in Uganda. A section of Ugandans had claimed that the arrangement of the colours on the tower resembled those long adopted by the LGBTQ community and the intent was to promote acceptance of homosexuality among impressionable children who use the park as a playground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the public outcry, Entebbe municipality Mayor, Fabrice Rulinda says the municipality and the municipal council conform and adhere to the laws of Uganda and the accepted cultural and customary practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is unfortunate that certain movements have decided to use the rainbow to represent and reflect certain acts that go against the norms of the people of Uganda,\u201d Rulinda noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rulinda stated the park had been refurbished with support from the Lion\u2019s Club to create a safe and colorful environment for the children to play and that the rainbow was painted on one of the structures by the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that that they are cognizant of the challenging times and immoral acts that are detrimental to the children, the rainbow had always been as a beautiful arch of colors and biblically it reflects the beauty and majesty of God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201d We appreciate the vigilance and the patriotism of our people in protecting the heritage and the future of our country by protecting the children of the land,\u201d Rulinda said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The development comes at the backdrop of allegations that certain Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) are facilitating some Local-Government authorities to promote homosexuality in the country, a norm prohibited in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last week, Kasese Municipal Council was suspected to have connived with Human Rights Promotions Awareness Forum (HRAPF), an NGO, to attempt to pass a bylaw that recorganises the LGBTQ community as minorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
