Old Kampala police station is investigating an attempted arson on the Masanafu police post on Tuesday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire explains that an unidentified man approached the police station at around 11:30 pm with a 2-liter water bottle containing an unknown substance. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Owoyesigyire, one of the officers who was manning the station asked the man what was in the bottle and what had taken him to the Police station. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He, however, says that the man responded by pouring the substance and setting a fire. \u201cUnfortunately, he got burnt in the process, and started running towards the officers, prompting one of them to shoot at him,\u201d he said. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explains that the officers managed to put out the fire and rushed the man to Mulago National Referral Hospital for treatment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe has since succumbed to the injuries he sustained at Masanafu Police station,\u201d Owoyesigyire said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that a team of investigators rushed to the scene and picked up the 2-liter bottle that has been exhibited for analysis to ascertain the contents. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says that the team also picked up a matchbox that the man used to start the fire, a photocopy of a National ID in the name of Kintu Charles Bazil, and a phone that will aid their investigations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInvestigations into the matter have commenced to establish the attacker\u2019s motive and whether he is part of the gang that has been attacking Police stations or not,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is not clear whether this incident is related to several attacks on police stations that occurred last year in Kampala, Luwero, and Mbale districts.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
