Officers at Nakulabye police post have fought off an attempted attack by unknown assailants riding on a motorcycle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, says that the assailants attempted to attack the police post at around 4 am Wednesday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, police constable Robert Teki, who had taken cover in one of the vehicles at the police spotted the assailants approaching from the west. Teki opened fire at the attackers and he raised an alarm to alert his colleagues inside the police post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officers discharged several bullets toward the attackers forcing them to flee and abandon an AK47 Magazine with 05 rounds of ammunition.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInvestigations into the matter have commenced aided by CCTV cameras to try to identify the attackers and their\u00a0movements.\u00a0We commend the Police officer on duty for the vigilance exhibited,\u201d Owoyesigyire said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stephen Nsereko, the chairperson of Nakulabye zone six, said that although the attackers found the officers alert, the attempted raid has thrown them into a panic.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nsereko explains that they are more worried that after the police attacks, the assailants could turn guns on the helpless residents.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nsereko has described the recent move by police authorities to merge police stations and posts as a gamble and a sign of cowardice that is most likely to fuel criminality. He said police should just reinforce all stations to deal with the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0Some of the residents around the police post, who declined to be mentioned, said the shootings lasted for more than five minutes sending them into\u00a0a\u00a0panic\u00a0mood the\u00a0entire night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By the time of filing the story, security teams from the Uganda People\u2019s Defense Forces-UPDF, Crime intelligence, and Crime scene officers were still documenting the scene of the crime. Police also introduced sniffers to the scene but they moved a few meters and lost the truck. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This was the third attack on police stations this month. Last week, unknown assailants also attempted to overrun\u00a0Kensington Police Post in Kyanja. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attack followed a gun raid on Busika police station in Luwero district in which, two police officers were killed and two others injured.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attackers made off with 2 firearms. One of the injured police officers later succumbed to the gunshot wounds. Security has since blamed the attack on the Uganda Forces for Coalition Change, a rebel outfit. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
