The number of confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease in Kassanda District has increased to 48.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kassanda Resident District Commissioner, Phoebe Namulindwa said that majority of the confirmed Ebola cases and suspected cases are from Kikandwa Village in Kalwana Sub County. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She attributed the rising cases to the contact persons who have started showing signs and symptoms of Ebola.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Namulindwa said that they have 944 contact persons listed who are undergoing surveillance while others are being traced. She also blamed the surging problem on politicians and Boda Boda motorists who have continued to defy the lockdown regulations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Namulindwa revealed that the health staffing levels in Kassanda stand at 38 percent and they are the ones to be deployed for Ebola response as well as routine medical work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the RDC, 80 percent of the shops in Kikandwa trading center have since closed implying that some people shifted to other areas which are risky. \u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Namulindwa was quick to add that they have intensified vigilance among the village health teams like LCs and Village Health Teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Namulindwa was speaking on Thursday at a community meeting in Kassanda Town Council on the implementation of the measures to control the spread of Ebola. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last month, President Museveni announced a 21 days lockdown in Mubende and Kassanda districts restricting movements in and out to control the spread Ebola virus disease. \u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He cited the gravity of the problem and the need to prevent the further spread of Ebola and protect lives and livelihoods saying that the restrictions start with immediate effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
