The Ministry of Education has banned all manner of concerts that involve secular music and dancing as well as those entertainment concerts that involve artistes in schools with immediate effect.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement seen by Ug Mirror, Dr. Jane Egau Okou, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry said these are derailing students from the agenda of constructive co-curricular activities to moral and cultural degradation, which is completely unacceptable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn the morning of Monday 11th July, 2022, the country woke up to the shocking videos that were circulating on social media to portray the indecency that is allowed in our children’s schools. It is also now clear that there have been several of these totally unacceptable and offensive functions allowed in schools in the name of extracurricular and entertainment activities, \u201csaid Okou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Ministry, extracurricular activities in school normally mean sports and games, debate clubs among others and If schools need to entertain themselves, then they can engage in acting plays or arrange concerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, she explained that inviting singers who dance erotic dances, naked in the schools in the guise of extracurricular activities must be forbidden hence forth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt its sitting held on 18th July 2022, the Senior Management Meeting of the Ministry resolved that indeed now the Ministry of Education and Sports is compelled to provide guidelines on the nature and conduct of co-curricular and entertainment activities allowed in schools, \u201cshe stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She noted that everybody must always remember that the Ministry of Education and Sports is the custodian of the values and behavior of the children of Uganda while at school, whether those schools are government or private schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn the meantime, therefore, head teachers and principals of both Primary and Secondary Schools are cautioned not to hire or allow any of these “artists” to perform in schools. Failure to comply, will lead to school managers being held responsible and disciplinary measures charged against them, \u201cshe warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She informed all concerned people to ban performances of this nature from school grounds, adding that clear guidelines will soon be officially issued by the Ministry of Education and Sports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
