{"id":3143,"date":"2018-02-27T17:21:20","date_gmt":"2018-02-27T14:21:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=3143"},"modified":"2018-02-27T17:21:20","modified_gmt":"2018-02-27T14:21:20","slug":"hon-mukwaya-attends-fourth-session-islamic-conference-labour-ministers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2018\/02\/27\/hon-mukwaya-attends-fourth-session-islamic-conference-labour-ministers\/","title":{"rendered":"Hon Mukwaya Attends Fourth Session Of Islamic Conference Of Labour Ministers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 4th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers was held at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 22<sup>nd<\/sup> February 2018 under the theme &#8220;<em>Developing a Common Strategy for the Development of the Workforce&#8221;. <\/em>The Conference was attended by 56 countries and several regional and international organizations.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda\u2019s Delegation was led by Hon Janat B. Mukwaya, Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference considered extensively the state of the Labour Market among the Member States of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the strategies for employment creation.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the Conference adopted the OIC Labour Strategy; OIC Mutual Recognition Agreement of Qualifications for Skilled Labour Force; OIC Bilateral Agreement on the Exchange of Labour and the extension of the Islamic Development Bank funded Youth Employment Support Programme (YES) to all countries including Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>During her intervention, Hon. Janat Mukwaya noted that \u201cunemployment and underemployment and especially among the youth is a key development challenge and threat to peace, stability in the OIC States\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, she hastened to add that the \u201cpoor labour market outcomes in the OIC States should not be a cause for despair but a cause for action.<\/p>\n<p>To this end she shared Uganda\u2019s experience of addressing unemployment among youth and women through the Youth Livelihood Programme and the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme.<\/p>\n<p>She further welcomed the OIC Secretariat to study these two programmes for purposes of adoption with necessary modification in other Partners States.<\/p>\n<p>Uganda\u2019s Delegation also held meetings with the Delegations of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Jordan on the sidelines of the Conference.<\/p>\n<p>The meetings focused on strengthening cooperation in the promotion of safe and productive labour migration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 4th Session of the Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers was held at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 22nd February 2018 under the theme &#8220;Developing a Common Strategy for the Development of the Workforce&#8221;.
