{"id":31393,"date":"2022-06-26T15:34:18","date_gmt":"2022-06-26T12:34:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/?p=31393"},"modified":"2022-06-26T15:34:19","modified_gmt":"2022-06-26T12:34:19","slug":"at-least-17-found-dead-in-south-africa-nightclub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ugmirror.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/26\/at-least-17-found-dead-in-south-africa-nightclub\/","title":{"rendered":"At least 17 found dead in South Africa nightclub"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>At least 17 people have been found dead in a nightclub in South Africa&#8217;s East London city, local media report.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bodies were found at the Enyobeni Tavern early on Sunday, and reports say several people were injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation as we speak,&#8221; a police spokesman told the Newzroom Africa television channel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We do not want to make any speculations at this stage,&#8221; Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A large number of emergency service personnel are on the scene in the Eastern Cape province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Relatives of the victims have been unable to see their bodies, reports say, and locals have called for the venue to be closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eastern Cape Police Commissioner Nomthetheleli Lilian Mene told SABC News that &#8220;there was an alleged stampede inside the tavern&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BBC has been unable to verify this and details are still emerging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four people have been taken to hospital, SABC reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brigadier Kinana told reporters most of those found dead were young adults aged between 18 and 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eyewitnesses told the Daily Dispatch newspaper that bodies were lying inside the venue as if they had collapsed on the floor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for Eastern Cape&#8217;s health department told News24 the dead bodies were taken to various nearby mortuaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siyanda Manana added: &#8220;We are going to conduct autopsies as soon as possible to establish the probable cause of death.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>BBC News Africa<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least 17 people have been found dead in a nightclub in South Africa&#8217;s East London city, local media report.
