The Democratic Republic of Congo’s army says Rwandan soldiers backed M23 rebels during an attack on Monday near its border with Rwanda and Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The DR Congo’s army said it had captured two Rwandan soldiers involved in the attack and presented them at a press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But in a rejoinder, the governor of Rwanda’s Western province said Rwandan army was “not by any means involved in the belligerent activities” in Congo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Francois Habitegeko also disowned names of the alleged Rwandan soldiers captured in Congo and said the Congolese army should have used verification mechanisms between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Congolese army had said the rebels attacked its positions in Tshanzu and Runyonyi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It added that “all measures have been taken to quickly restore authority” in the two regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The UN has regularly accused Rwanda and Uganda of supporting the M23 although both governments deny the allegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The rebel group, made up of army deserters who are mainly ethnic Tutsis, was named after a 23 March 2009 peace deal signed by the government and a former militia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
