Paul Mutalya, the Secretary Kitagwenda District Service Commission is in police custody for alleged bribery. The District Police Commander, Henry Mugarura, says that Mutalya was picked up following a complaint filed by Milton Ayebazibwe who applied for the post of parish chief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ayebazibwe, who teaches at Kyabatimbo primary school, says that the suspect asked him for a bribe of Shillings 2milion to fast track his application but first tasked him to pay an instalment of Shillings 1.1million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He claims that when the interviews started Mutalya demanded additional Shillings 2.5 million bringing the total sum to Shillings 3.6 million. Ahereza says that upon realizing that he wouldn’t the money he demanded a refund of his Shillings 1.1million to back out of the deal in vain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He presented audio phone recordings, which he claimed prove his deal with the accused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mutalya declined to comment on the matter when approached at Kitagwenda Central Police Station. Kitagwenda district LC V Chairperson Ismail Mushemeza told Uganda Radio Network that he received complaints from Ahereza and advised him to report the matter to the police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to URN, Joseph Ssekasamba, the Kitagwenda Deputy Resident District Commissioner pointed out that cases of corruption and bribery have been rampant in the district, saying Mutalya is not alone.
