The Uganda Police have in their custody four medics from the Women’s Hospital and Fertility centre in Bukoto over a failed medical procedure on a newly wed bride.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This development has been confirmed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Spokesperson, Charles Twiine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He adds that the four have been detained at Kira Road Police Station as investigations continue into the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Joan Namutebi (bride), is said to be in critical condition, following the family planning procedure that took place at the Women’s hospital in Bukoto, a city suburb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The couple were wedded last Friday before going to the Bukoto Women’s hospital the following day, to have the Intrauterine Device (IUD) insertion, a family planning procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to details of the procedure, a doctor puts the IUD in a small tube that he inserts into a woman’s vagina<\/strong>. The doctor then moves the tube up through the cervix and into the uterus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Then the person performing the procedure pushes the IUD out of the tube and pulls the tube out. Strings attached to the IUD will hang 1-2 inches into the vagina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n However, reports indicate that during the procedure, the victim, developed abdominal complications and went into a coma. She was later rushed to Victoria Hospital in Bukoto where she was admitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
