A 36-year-old Burundian soldier has today been intercepted in Kisoro district while transporting two sub-machine guns to Kampala. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The suspect, identified as Hussein Mbabazi Turinayezu, a resident of Munengwe village in Kibitoki county, Burundi, was arrested on Wednesday while attempting to board a Bismirkan bus from Kisoro, an area that shares a boundary with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda in South-Western Uganda<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kisoro District Police Commander Henry Kintu says that Mbabazi attempted to board a bus with a sack that he said contained cassava flour. But the Bus aides became suspicious and checked the sack in which they found two sub-machine guns hidden in the flour. They alerted the police leading to the arrest of the soldier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kintu says that upon interrogation, Mbabazi explained that he was transporting the guns to Kampala to join his accomplices on a mission. He has now been transferred to Kampala for further interrogation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Denis Dusenge, one of the bus touts and an eyewitness told our reporter that Mbabazi, who was initially in the company of two others, disagreed with a number of bus operators on the cost of travel to Kampala and opted for the Bismarkan Bus which he said was fairly priced. But he ran out of luck when the Bismarkan buses conductors checked his sack and found there two guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kisoro Resident District Commissioner Captain Peter Mugisha says that Mbabazi could be one of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels who was heading to Kampala after training in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mbabazi’s arrest comes a day after the twin bombing of Kampala that left scores injured and claimed several lives. One of the explosions occurred at the IPS building near parliament and the other at the quarter guard of the Central Police Station in Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
